Our Story

Once upon a time (okay, it was 2016), in the magical land of charity events and church basements, two paths that had almost crossed one too many times finally aligned. That was the year Regina opened a door — literally — for Merci at a fundraising event she was catering. At the time, it seemed like nothing more than a polite gesture. But oh, if doors could talk.
Fast forward a few months to September 2016, when they “officially” met at a praise and worship practice for a church they were both about to attend. Merci, smooth as ever, greeted Regina with two essential questions: “Are those your real eyes?” followed by, “How old are you?” Clearly, small talk has never been his thing. But somehow, those strange-but-endearing questions worked. They became fast friends, bonding through youth group events, worship sets, and their shared love of faith and music.
Then came New Year’s Eve 2017. Picture it: fireworks lighting up the sky at The Forks — and perhaps, a few quiet sparks flying between Regina and Merci too. It wasn’t long before their first official date: a movie night watching SING(yes, the animated musical with dancing animals — very romantic, very them). A mission trip the following month brought them even closer, and by spring, it was official: they were a couple.
Over the years, they grew together — not just in age but in love, faith, and friendship. They’ve danced through joy, held each other through tears, and laughed until their stomachs hurt. They created a life full of adventure, deep conversations, and car duets that shall remain unreleased.
Then came a milestone: April 2022. One day after celebrating five years of love, they found out they were expecting their first child — sweet baby Elias — their greatest and most joyful blessing.
A month later, they headed to Chicago for a concert Regina had gifted for Merci’s birthday. What she didn’t know was that Merci had an extra surprise of his own.
Proposal Attempt #1: A rooftop restaurant with a stunning view… and the vibe of a sports bar. Too loud.
Proposal Attempt #2: A romantic Ferris wheel moment at Navy Pier… until Regina had a full-on meltdown (who knew fear of heights could be a plot twist?).
Proposal Attempt #3: With time running out and plans shifting, they ended up walking along the river dock with the Chicago skyline twinkling behind them. That’s where Merci finally dropped to one knee. Regina said yes! (And no, she didn’t cry this time — at least not from fear.)
Now, after nearly a decade of life, love, lessons, laughter, and their little Elias — they’re making it official.
We’re getting married, y’all. ❤️
